About Meridiana Airlines

Meridiana, an Italian airline was established in the name of Alisarda on 29th March 1963 by Prince Karim al- Hussayn Aga Khan to promote tourism in Sardinia. It scheduled flights commenced in 1964.

Its name was changed to Meridiana on 3rd May 1991. The airlines headquarter is at Olbia with its main base at Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport. The Inauguration of Meridiana Fly, which was created after the merger of Eurofly with Meridiana, took place in 2010.

The sole objective of this merger was to connect the main Italian airports with the two largest islands Sardinia and Sicily. In October 2011, Meridiana acquired the properties Air Italy making it a subsidiary which now operates flight under the name of Meridiana, after rebranding its name from Air Italy and eliminating the suffix “fly” from the Meridiana Fly. Meridiana Airline has been operating flights for more than 50 years and is transporting 4 million passengers annually within Italy, Europe and international destinations.

Meridiana’s Hub, Bases and Destinations

Apart from its main hub atOlbia, the airline has operating bases in Milan-Malpensa Airport, Milan-Linate Airport, Naples International Airport, Rome-Fiumicino Airport&Verona Villafranca Airport. With its wide range of flights and leisure type destination (with respect to national & international short and medium-haul scheduled flights) from its main airport at Italy, it is possible to reach Sardinia, Sicily and Naples and major holiday destinations like the Mediterranean or in Egypt, Greece and the Red Sea.

Its long range destinations services are from Milan Malpensa & Rome Fiumicino to Maldives, Kenya, Zanzibar, Santo Domingo and Brazil. The airline focuses mainly on these destinations Naples, Catania, Milan, Linate and Verona airport running their domestic flights.

As per October of 2015, the airline has a total of 20 fleets under its belt which includes 2 Boeing 737-300, 3 Boeing 737-700, 4 Boeing 737-800, 1 Boeing 767-200ER, 2 Boeing 767-300ER, 7 McDonnell Douglas MD-82 and 1 McDonnell Douglas MD-83. Of which the Boeing fleets are operated by Air Italy.

The airline has codeshare agreements with Air Malta, Iberia & S7 Airline, which allows the airline number the flights from other airlines as their own and also market their products on the other’s flight.
